МTS carried out the next stage of the project «Children are our Future» in Vladimir region

On the eve of the New Year holidays, on the 28th and 30th of December, employees of the Vladimir branch of MTS wished their friends, the teachers of the Lyakhovskii children’s home, a Happy New Year. The children visited the Drama Theatre in Vladimir and received presents. The employees of MTS had already furnished the children’s home with a computer classroom and a relaxation room and regularly bring them various essential items. 
MTS’ charity program «Children are our Future» is run in 16 regions of the National Central Federal Area (Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Ivanov, Kaluzhsk, Kostroma, Kursk, Lipetsk, Orlov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tambov, Tver, Tula and Yaroslavl regions). The program consists of targeted help for children with limited abilities, orphans and children from under-privileged families.

 
MTS in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky ran the project «1000 Cranes»

MTS ran the charity project «1000 Cranes» in aid of the City Children’s Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka. On the 26th of December, garlands of 1000 paper cranes, along with presents from MTS, were given to the children’s hospital.
This charity project began on the 4th of December as part of MTS’ social responsibility program «Children are our Future». Participants in the project were both subscribers and employees of MTS who live in Petropavlovsk, who put the origami cranes together. Thanks to the joint efforts of all the participants, over one and a half thousand paper figures, both small and large, were collected, 
“We are very grateful to everyone who took part in the campaign. Together, by joining these cranes, we shared our goodwill. I’m sure that the warm hearts of the people of Kamchatka can’t fail to help the young patients to recover quickly. A new play corner, where the children can enjoy books and toys while they’re in hospital, may help them forget about their illnesses and will lend them a real New Year, celebratory mood”, said the Director of MTS’ branch in the Kamchatka region, Anatoliy Yaschenko.
According to Japanese legend, paper cranes bring happiness, and a chain of 1000 cranes guarantees that your wishes will come true and you will enjoy perfect health. The first cranes were strung together by representatives of Kamchatka region’s media organizations. After that, the project was joined by school children, employees of various companies and many other caring residents of the peninsula. MTS’ employees themselves also actively joined in.
MTS runs and supports social projects, the aim of which is to provide targeted help for children’s homes and hospitals all over Russia.

 
MTS presented photography exhibition «The Games 2008: The taste of our success» to the Sports Agency of the Perm region

On the 24th of December, as part of its New Year’s Olympic events program, MTS presented more than 50 works of leading Reuter’s photographers to the Sports Agency of the Perm region. The photographs were previously part of the exhibition ‘The Games 2008: The taste of our success’. The photography exhibition, organized by MTS, took place in Perm from the 19th of November to the 20th of December. The exhibition was dedicated to the most interesting and significant moments of the Beijing 2008 XXIX Olympic Games. Among the collection are photographs of Perm’s athletes, Tatyana Beshkurova and Maxim Dyildin, at the games in Beijing. Now the works are decorating the walls of the children’s sports institutes which opened as part of the region’s sports development program «School of Champions».
MTS regularly supports regional sporting events on both country-wide and regional scales. This year MTS became a sponsor of the Russian Olympic Committee and in June, with the support of MTS, a street basketball competition ‘STREETBASKET-2008’ was held in Perm. In January 2009, MTS will become partner in the international festival for winter extreme sports, BGV.

 
MTS holds lessons in mobile literacy in Arkhangelsk

During the period from 20th of November to 20th of December, MTS, as part of its country-wide project, ‘Lessons in mobile literacy’, organized lessons for students of grades 3-7 in 3 schools in the suburbs of Arkhangelsk: Maimaksa, Tsiglomen, 29th Lesozavod.
Incorporating games into the lessons, employees of MTS taught the children about how mobile communication developed, how you should use a mobile phone in public places and how not to get cheating into buying a stolen or fake phone. After the class, the children answered a quiz and were given presents from MTS. 213 children took part in these unusual classes, and the Company plans to hold ‘Lessons in mobile literacy’ in several more schools in Arkhangelsk by the end of February. Since the project began, 8 schools in the Arkhangelsk region have already held classes on the basics of mobile literacy and welcomed over 800 students. The project ‘Lessons in mobile literacy’ has been run by MTS since 2006, covering all the Russian regions.

MTS carried out the next stage of its country-wide program, ‘Children are our future’, in Ryazan region. The mobile operator organized a New Year event for teachers of the Sasovskaya boarding school. Children took part in matinee performances, a disco with competitions and prizes, and were also given New Year presents such as carnival costumes and sweets. The teachers play an active part in the social life of the school and accompanied the children to the circus.

MTS carried out a new stage in the federal project «Children are our future» in Nizhegorod region

As part of the ‘Children are our future’ project, dedicated to the development and support of children’s artistic achievements and education, MTS donated a computer class to the “Dzerzhinskii” State Educational Orphanage. The special (corrective) orphanage takes in disabled orphans and other disabled children who are not cared for by their parents. The facilities give the children the opportunity to use new computer programs, enjoy the absorbing games and much more. After the official ceremony, a fun program was organized for the children with tasty treats, presents and competitions.  
“The ‘Children are our future’ project is being run in many regions of Russia and provides targeted support for children. The program will be actively developed next year. We plan to support a range of cultural and sporting events on a regional level, and also to give targeted help to orphanages”, said Nizhegorod region’s Director of JSC «MTS», Ivan Uvarov.

 
In Novgorod region, MTS was a partner in the charity phone-in marathon «A Christmas Present»

In Novgorod region, MTS became a partner in the traditional charity phone-in marathon, «A Christmas Present». This year, under the aegis of the Novgorod region administration, a fundraising event has been launched to help families with children who are suffering from chronic diseases. 
Now Novgorod region’s MTS subscribers have the opportunity to make a donation by sending an SMS with the message “Good” to 99111. More than 4000 SMS’s have already been received, raising 40,000 rubles.  Each message debits 10 rubles from the subscriber’s account and donates them to the marathon. 
Donations can also be made in MTS shops and at mobile phone top-up outlets by putting money onto the number 8-911-622-50-05. This number was specially set up to collect funds for the marathon. All funds raised through the campaign will be given to families of sick children in the region who need financial help. You can take part in the Christmas charity marathon until the end of January 2009.

 
MTS runs its country-wide program «Children are our future», in Kostroma and Kaluzhsk regions

As part of its country-wide program, ‘Children are our future’, MTS gave targeted help to children from state institutions in Kostroma and Kaluzhsk regions. Company representatives brought classroom furniture to the Vokhomskaya boarding school in Kostroma, wished the teachers and other employees a Happy New Year and gave out presents, including personal gifts which had been collected by the Company employees. The operator organized a trip to an art gallery and the regional museum for the children of the Duminicheskii orphanage in Kaluzhsk region.

MTS held «Lessons in mobile literacy» in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka

On the 12th of December, MTS held the next ‘Lesson in mobile literacy’ for school students of Kamchatka region. The aim of the lesson ‘What is it calling for?’, for students of the 5th grade of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka’s school №36, was to familiarize children with the rules of using mobile communications services. Incorporating games into the lesson, employees of MTS taught the children about the history of mobile phones, introduced them to the rules of using phones in public places and told them how to protect their personal information from strangers. MTS specialists reminded students that they must never use their phones in cinemas, museums, hospitals and on air planes. The children found out that mobile communication was first used in 1921 by policemen in Detroit, USA. With particular interest, the children heard stories of how the mobile signal is transferred from one phone to another. At the end of the class the children took part in a fun MTS quiz and were given presents.

 
MTS presented their photography exhibition «The Games-2008: The taste of our success» to Bashkortostan’s Ministry of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism

MTS presented their photography exhibition ‘The Games-2008: The taste of our success’ to the Ministry of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The exhibition was organized in support of the achievements of Olympic athletes and was held on the 8th December. The international photography exhibition was dedicated to the most significant, interesting and emotional moments in the Beijing 2008 XXIX Olympic Games. The exhibition was held between the 28th November and 8th December in Ufa, in the entertainment complex «А Café». Several thousand residents of Ufa enjoyed the exhibition.
“Thank you for this gift. All the photographs will be used to decorate the sporting facilities of the Republic. The best moments of the Olympics will be enjoyed for a long time to come on the walls of stadiums, sport facilities and clubs”, said the Minister of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism of the Bashkortostan Republic, Vladimir Samorodov.

 
«1000 cranes»: MTS’ charity project in Kamchatka region

On the 4th of December, as part of its program ‘Children are our future’, MTS launched the charity project ‘1000 cranes’ to help the City Hospital for Children’s Infectious Diseases in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka. Anyone could participate; the city’s residents strung together the origami paper cranes and brought them to MTS shops. The campaign will finish at the end of December, by which time 1000 paper cranes will have been strung together. According to ancient Japanese legend, cranes bring happiness, health and make wishes come true. Garlands of the little crane figures will be given to the children’s hospital along with New Year’s presents from MTS. Representatives of the media, large companies and organizations of Kamchatka region are taking part in the MTS campaign «1000 cranes», along with MTS employees. The paper cranes can be found in MTS shops where you can also pick up the origami paper and instructions on how to fold it into cranes. MTS presented photographs of the best moments of the Beijing Olympic Games to the «Olymp» Palace of Sport in Krasnodar

On the 1st of December in Krasnodar region, MTS presented more than 100 photographs to the ‘Olymp’ Palace of Sport. The photographs were taken by leading Reuters photographers and well-known Russian sports photographers Andrey Golovanov and Sergey Kivran. Previously, they were part of the exhibition ‘The Games-2008: The taste of our success’. The photography exhibition ran from 6th-30th November in Krasnodar region’s Kovalenko Art Galley. It was dedicated to the most interesting and significant moments in the Beijing 2008 XXIX Olympic Games. Now the photographs of the Olympic collection are decorating the halls, VIP rooms and press centers of the Krasnodar Palace of Sport. “It is really very interesting work which reflects the most high-pressure moments in the Beijing Olympic Games. We are very pleased that these photographs from the Olympic collection are now decorating the interior of the Krasnodar Palace of Sport. This way they will remain accessible to all the residents of the city and the region”, said the Director of the ‘Olymp’ Palace of Sport, Andrey Danilov.

 
The exhibition «The Games-2008: The taste of our success» opened in Ufa

On the 28th of November in Ufa, the international exhibition ‘The Games-2008: The taste of our success’ opened in the entertainment complex «А café». The exhibition displays the best photographs of the Beijing Olympics. Participants in the formal ceremony included the Vice Prime Minister, the Minister of Culture and National Policy of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Ildus Gubaidullovich Ilishev, the Minister for Physical Education, Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Vladimir Samorodov, the three times champion of the Para-Olympic Games in Beijing, Oksana Savchenko, and many others.  
The exhibition is held by MTS and the ‘Moscow House of Photography’ with the support of the Russian Olympic Committee and Reuters, the international information agency. Ufa was the 9th Russian city to participate in the project. Previously, the collection has been enjoyed by residents of Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Samara and Perm. The exhibition in Ufa will run until the 8th December.

 
MTS are holding «Lessons on mobile literacy» in Saratov region

On the 28th of November, MTS carried out the next step in the ‘Lessons on mobile literacy’ program in Saratov region. The entertaining lesson was attended by over 60 students of the 3rd and 4th grades at school №3 in Saratov. The students learnt about the history of mobile communication, the originators of modern telecommunication, inventors of radio and telephone and the principals of how mobile communication works. MTS specialists taught the children about how mobile communication is set up, how the signal is transmitted and how connection is made between subscribers. All the students were given presents and souvenirs from MTS.  The program ‘Lessons on mobile literacy’ has been run in many Russian regions since 2006. The Company plans to hold ‘Lessons on mobile literacy’ in other schools in Saratov before the end of 2008.

 
The charity campaign «Mosaic of Good» was held in Krasnodar

On the 26th November, MTS and the Krasnodar regional Kovalenko Art Gallery ran a joint charity campaign, «Mosaic of Good». As part of the event, children from the Dinskii orphanage «Ostrovok» from the ages of 5 to 16 visited the exhibitions «The Games 2008: The taste of our success» and «Metamorphoses of Mikhail Shemyakin». The aim of the project «Mosaic of Good» which has been promoted since 2006, was to familiarize teachers in orphanages in Kuban with the history and cultural heritage of Krasnodar and with the works of Russian and foreign artists which are held in the Krasnodar regional Kovalenko Art Gallery.

 
MTS became partner in the competition «My Lovely Mum» in Rostov region

In Rostov region, MTS became partner in the children’s art competition «My Lovely Mum». The competition was held in cooperation with the newspaper «Komsomolskaya Pravda: Rostov» from the 27th October to the 22nd November. It was timed to coincide with Mother’s Day. 
In total, more than 100 pictures were sent in to the competition from children of 3-15 years old. The best 24 entries were selected from 2 age categories. On the 22nd November, the winners were invited to the MTS offices where they were formally awarded. All the participants received presents from MTS and the accompanying parents took place in a family mini-competition.

 
MTS are holding «Lessons in mobile literacy» in Arkhangelsk

From 20th-24th November, as part of the Russia-wide project «Lessons in mobile literacy», MTS organized classes for participants from the 3rd-6th grades in two Arkhangelsk schools. Incorporating games into the class, MTS employees taught the children about how mobile communication first started, how to use their phones properly in public places, how to protect themselves from mobile phone fraud. After the class, the children did a quiz and were given presents by MTS. 150 children took part in these unusual classes and the Company plans to hold «Lessons in mobile literacy» in several more schools in Arkhangelsk. The MTS project «Lessons in mobile literacy» has been underway since 2006 in all the Russian regions.
