MOBILE DATA USAGE REPORT, 2015

пятница, февраля 05, 2016

We would like to share with you key findings on Internet-traffic usage in MTS network:

Over the course of 2015, the volume of 4G traffic doubled, while the total volume of internet consumption increased by 1.5x

By the end of 2015, we had 7.5 mln LTE devices connected to MTS’s network, of which 4.3 mln were active mobile Internet users, two times as much as last year.

Online video, music, social networks and messenger services accounted for 60% of total traffic consumption in 2015 (50% in 2014). Detailed structure of mobile traffic is shown below:

The increase in mobile Internet traffic usage is also being driven by the rising penetration of smartphones among MTS clients due to company’s retail strategies. In 2015, b-branded (i.e. non-premium brand) smartphones (represented in categories “other” and “Alcatel” combined) increased their share to 35% from 28% among MTS clients. Samsung maintained its share with 26%, while the share of Apple’s iPhone slightly fell to 20% from 21% in 2014.

MTS ROAMING USAGE DURING THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAY SEASON

вторник, января 26, 2016

We would like to share with you key findings from our report on roaming usage during the New Year holiday season (December 15, 2015 – January 15, 2016).

- As we noted in the report on roaming during summer 2015, the number of Russians travelling abroad continues to decline. During the New Year holidays the number of MTS customers using international roaming fell by 20% year-over-year.

- The volume of calls and sent messages decreased by 29% and 24% respectively.

- At the same time, mobile Internet usage increased by 35% as a result of rising smartphone penetration and increased popularity of our data roaming packages and tariff options.

- Customers are consuming more traffic through social networks and messenger apps. The share of social traffic in total international roaming traffic grew from 30% to 33%, which reflects the importance of Internet as a communication channel.

- Egypt is no longer in the top-10 most popular tourist destinations, while Poland made it to the list. Other than that, the list remains the same as in previous periods: Austria, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Finland, France, Poland, Ukraine.

- We have registered an increase in the number of foreigners coming to Russia for holidays from the US, the EU, China and even Iran! This translated to growth in guest roaming revenues.

- The number of tourists from the EU and the US grew by 24% and 20% respectively, and they generated 40% more data traffic than a year ago.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

пятница, декабря 16, 2011

The Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast projects that global mobile data traffic will increase 26-fold between 2010 and 2015 – reaching 6.3 exabytes per month by 2015.  Likewise, in Russia mobile data traffic will grow 24-fold from 2010 to 2015, a compound annual growth rate of 89%.

MTS is managing this exceptional growth through the optimization of mobile data traffic. We recently deployed Flash Networks' Harmony Mobile Internet Services Gateway to optimize the volume of traffic.

Online video already accounts for more than 40% of the Russia's mobile data traffic, and this will go up to 61% by 2015, Cisco forecasts. With Flash Networks' solution video, picture, and other mobile data will be optimized for the fastest possible download speed, thereby reducing mobile network traffic load by up to 40%.

All in all, this means MTS customers will have faster Internet access.  It will optimize up to 90% of our mobile Internet traffic and reduce content and web page download times. This new technology will be available to all MTS mobile Internet users in Russia before the year is out.
