Two MTS executives were named among the 40 most important telecom leaders under the age of 40. Mikhail Shamolin, President and CEO of the Company, and Mikhail Gerchuk, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, became the only executives from Russia and the CIS to make the “40 under 40” list by Global Telecoms Business magazine.

We have attended the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week and wanted to share some highlights of MTS at the show for the readers of our blog.

In a video interview below with Light Reading TV, Dr. Michael Hecker, Vice President for Strategy and Corporate Development at MTS, discusses the rising demand for data in our markets, our growth outlook and plans for LTE.

Our English-language corporate website has recently been named the best in Russia in 2009 by H&H Webranking. H&H Webranking conducts surveys of capital market participants such as the financial analysts, investors, business journalists and jobseekers, so as to review such aspects as availability of information, ease of access and frequency of updates of corporate websites.
 
“Mobile TeleSystems took a huge step forward from last year’s 20th position. Climbing 20 positions in one year... to the company in Russia that best fulfils the demands from the international capital market is very impressive,” says Marcus Eriksson, head of H&H Webranking.

On October 27, IR Magazine Russia & CIS held its annual award ceremony, where we were honored with the grand prix for the best overall IR.

“Investor relations in Russia can be tough. The country’s stock market is still in its infancy and remains far more volatile than other major country’s bourses. One consistent performer amid these conditions is Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), which this week picked up another award for its IR department.

The mobile phone operator won the grand prix for best overall IR at the IR magazine Russia & CIS awards in Moscow on Tuesday. Joshua Tulgan, the company’s director of IR, was present to accept the award. With this prize, MTS builds on its success last year, when it picked up best IR by a Russian company at the IR Magazine Continental Europe Awards.”

MTS recently won the 2009 Summit Marketing Effectiveness Award for our customer segmentation. We were recognized in the Consumer Services category for the robust approach we took to deliver most suitable products and services across our footprint of 6 countries with a total population of over 230 million. We became the first company in our markets to be recognized for customer segmentation, a testament to the fact that we have implemented world class solution.

Approaching six markets with significant economic and cultural differences, we intended to create a common language and a consistent platform that would allow us to offer better tailored services as well as make our marketing effort more efficient. This overarching platform was meant to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of all our marketing initiatives and improve marketing effectiveness of the MTS Group.

We are delighted to inform you that MTS was recognized at a ceremony hosted at the Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya in Moscow, Russia, and was awarded three “Crystal Headsets.” Our macro-region North-West call center (located in Saint Petersburg) and its head Ms. Elena Kopshar won in the “Best Internal Relations in a Call Center” and “Best Team Leader” nominations respectively. Our colleagues at the MTS Ukraine call center won in the “Best Call Center Infrastructure” category.
